Successful FAT for Sarawak Metro KUTS Malaysia

In Week 29 of 2025, a key milestone was achieved for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) – Phase 1, part of the Sarawak Metro project in Malaysia. A delegation representing the project stakeholders visited Moser-Baer AG (MOBATIME Swiss Time Systems) in Sumiswald, Switzerland, to witness the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of the Master Clock System (MCS).

The FAT was conducted from 14th to 17th July 2025 at MOBATIME’s testing laboratory in Switzerland. It marked an important step in ensuring the readiness and reliability of the time synchronization infrastructure, which will serve as the backbone for communication, safety, and operational systems across the KUTS network.

Key Stakeholders of this FAT

  • End Client: Sarawak Metro Sdn. Bhd. (SMSB)
  • General Consultant / Reviewing Authority: Sarawak Metro’s appointed consultants (SDC)
  • Contractor (SPC2 Package 2): DOM EEB Joint Venture International Sdn. Bhd.
  • System Supplier: MOBATIME Swiss Time Systems (Moser-Baer AG)

Scope of FAT

The FAT covered both hardware and software validation of the Master Clock System being deployed to the esteemed project. Tests included:

  • Hardware inspections (Grandmaster, Slave Master Clocks, Digital and Analogue Clocks)
  • System functionality verification (synchronization, accuracy, alarms, holdover performance)
  • Redundancy tests to ensure continuous operation in case of failure
  • Protocol compliance (NTP, SNMP, IEEE 1588, etc.)

A Step Toward Reliable Operations

The delegation from Malaysia, together with MOBATIME Swiss Time Systems teams, carefully reviewed all procedures and results. The FAT concluded successfully, confirming that the Master Clock System fully meets the project’s stringent requirements for safety, redundancy, and operational reliability.

This achievement not only demonstrates MOBATIME’s commitment to delivering high-quality, Swiss-engineered solutions but also reinforces the collaborative effort between Sarawak Metro, DOM EEB JV, and MOBATIME in realizing Malaysia’s first Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system.

The successful FAT paves the way for delivery, installation, and commissioning at site, bringing Sarawak closer to its vision of a modern, efficient, and sustainable public transportation network.
